Video management

The Video Library — finding, organising, exporting, sharing, and clearing videos.

UPDATED

Every recorded and imported set produces a video that is stored locally in the Metric app alongside your set data. This guide will ensure you do not lose any video data and keep your storage under control.

Important Note: All videos recorded in Metric are stored locally on device, video is not stored to the cloud for any user. Read more below to ensure you do not lose any important training videos.

Basic vs Pro vs Coach

  • Basic (free) members: No in-app video storage or video library features available. Set videos are saved in your history for 24 hours. To keep your videos you can enable auto-export, or manually export your training videos after each recording. After 24 hours videos are deleted

  • Pro. Auto and manual export PLUS in app video library. Turn on automatic video saving (stores all sets to the library) or manually save just the videos you want at the time of recording. If library is turned off, videos are deleted after 24 hours.

Where the library lives

Videos live in the video library, or in history connected to the set in your workouts/sets list. Videos are stored locally on your device. There is no cloud storage yet (coming soon)

Videos are sorted by date. Each entry shows thumbnail, exercise name, date and time, load and rep count, and file size. You can search in the library by exercise, weight or athlete name (for coaches)

Exporting to camera roll

Export a video to your camera roll two ways:

  • Manual export — from any set review, tap Share → Save video.
  • Auto-export — turn on automatic export in Account → Settings → Video settings so every recorded set saves to your camera roll without extra taps.

Before exporting, set how the video looks in Account → Settings → Video settings: toggle the bar-path overlay, choose which metrics appear in the overlay, and enable auto-trim to crop the clip down to just the lifting portion.

Sharing to social

Direct share to any app installed on your phone via the share sheet:

  1. Open the set review from history, an active workout, or by tapping the video row in the Video Library.
  2. Tap the Share icon.
  3. Choose Share video.
  4. Pick the destination app. The video transfers with the overlays you configured for export.

Deleting videos

  • Single video — open the video, tap the menu, delete video. The set’s data is preserved; only the video file is removed.
  • Multiple videos — in the Video Library, turn on Multi-select from the options menu, then choose the videos and delete them in one action.
  • Auto-cleanup — set videos to auto-delete after a chosen number of days in Account → Settings → Video settings.

Warning: Deleting a video directly doesn’t delete the set’s data. Bar speed, reps, and history stay intact. Deleting a set or workout will however delete the associated videos.

Imported videos

Imported videos live in the same library, tagged with their source. Same export, share, and delete options apply. See Importing video for analysis.

Coach access

In Coach Mode, an athlete’s set data — velocity, reps, history — is available to you through the roster and dashboard. Video is the exception: Metric doesn’t sync video to the cloud yet, so an athlete’s video files live only on the device that recorded them. Until cloud sync ships, ask athletes to share key videos to you manually via the share sheet (see Sharing to social above).

Cloud backup

Metric does not currently sync video to the cloud. Videos live on the recording device only. To preserve videos beyond the local device:

  • Export to camera roll (backed up via iCloud Photos / Google Photos).
  • Export to a cloud destination via the share sheet (Drive, Dropbox).
  • Transfer to your computer.

Cloud video sync will be coming soon in a future release.
