Supersets
Pair exercises into supersets in the app or the web builder. Name them, fold them, and carry them through programs and history.
Drag one exercise onto another, and Metric joins them into a superset. You train the exercises back to back, and Metric labels them B1, B2.
You can build supersets in Metric Lift or in the web builder at app.metric.coach. The two work slightly differently. Everything you build carries through to programs, workouts and history.
Make a superset in the app
This works the same in a live workout and in the Program builder.
- Press and hold an exercise card until it lifts.
- Drag it onto the middle of another exercise.
- Release. The two exercises join.
If you drop it on the top or bottom edge of a card instead, the exercise lands beside that card, on its own. Between two exercises in a superset, the edges only change their order.
You can also tap ⋯ on an exercise card and choose Superset with above or Superset with below. Each option shows only where it can apply. Superset with above shows on the first exercise of a superset or a single exercise, and adds it to the end of the superset above.
Make a superset on the web
- Open your program in the builder.
- Drag an exercise by its name.
- Drop it on the middle of another exercise card.
The upper half of the target card puts your exercise first. The lower half puts it second. Drop on the top or bottom edge of a card to place the exercise between cards instead. The superset bracket shows once two exercises join.
Manage a superset
| To | In the app | On the web |
|---|---|---|
| Fold or unfold it | Tap the superset title | Click the superset title |
| Name it | Tap ⋯ on the superset header, then Rename superset | Hover over the header and click the pencil |
| Move the whole superset | Press and hold the header, then drag | Drag the grip on the header |
| Take one exercise out | Tap ⋯ on the exercise card, then Break out of superset, or drag it out | Drag it to the top or bottom edge of the bracket |
| Split every exercise apart | Tap ⋯ on the superset header, then Break up superset | Drag each exercise out |
A superset with no name shows as Superset · 2 exercises. To clear a name in the app, save it blank.
Folding changes only your view and resets when you leave the screen. In the app, folded supersets open while you drag, ready to take a dropped exercise.
Add a note on the web
In the web builder, click + Add a note under the superset header. Superset notes show on the web. Put anything an athlete must read in the app in an exercise note.
Read the labels
Each superset gets a letter, and its exercises number off it: A, B1, B2, C. On the web, every exercise has a letter. In the app, letters show only once the workout holds at least one superset. A workout without supersets shows no letters.
Train a superset
Train a superset in rounds. When you finish a set of B1, Metric moves you to B2. After the last exercise in the superset, Metric takes you back to B1 for the next round.
Where supersets go
- Programs. A program keeps its supersets and their names. See Building programs.
- Repeat and save. Repeat this workout and Save as program both keep the supersets from the original workout.
- Shared programs. Athletes see the supersets when they start the workout. The start screen shows the letters. The superset name shows on its header during the workout. See Sharing programs with your team.
- Athlete changes. An athlete can regroup exercises in their own workout. The program you shared does not change.
- History. The app shows the paired exercises with their letters. On the web, workout history also shows the bracket, the name and the notes.
When it goes wrong
- Down to one exercise. On the web, when a superset drops to one exercise, the superset ends. Its name and notes go with it.
- Merging two supersets. On the web, a whole superset moves only between other exercises and supersets. To merge two, drag the exercises across one at a time.
